Microblading

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a technique using a handheld tool to create realistic looking brows, creating hair strokes to mimic the look of individual hairs.  Channels are created in the skin using a selection of needles placed closely together, and pigment is implanted into these channels, giving the affect of hair.  We can also use techniques to create a more 'block' brow to achieve a fuller, defined brow, like that of makeup.  This is a permanent makeup treatment.

How long does it last?

Microblading on average will last around 12-18 months.  However some people will find they wont need to have their brows topped up within this time, and some may find they need it sooner.  Different factors such as skin type, products, and aftercare can affect this.  People with an oily skin type may find this treatment will not last as long, as the oils from the skin do not retain the pigment as long and may find they need a top up within 12 months.  Using skincare products containing AHA or Glycolic acid will also cause your microblading to fader faster.  Keeping your microbladed brows protected from sunlight will also ensure you get more wear from them.

Your brows may fade over time if you decide you do not want them topped up, however you may be left with some shaded areas.

Can anyone have Microblading?

Microblading is available to most clients!  There may be some medical conditions or medications that can prevent this for example

  • Those with allergies to the products and reactions to testing.
  • Those who have had botox within the last 2-4 weeks
  • Accutane medication
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Heart conditions and medications
  • Those on blood thinning medications
  • Those with serious medical conditions, and on medications may need to seek doctors approval

Microblading is suitable for those with little, to a lot of hair, as we carefully place each individual hair stroke in position best suited to achieve the look you desire.

Pre treatment advice

  • Come to your appointment wearing your usual makeup, so the technician can see how you normally wear your brows.
  • A patch test and pre consultation will be performed in advance of the appointment.
  • Do not take any aspirin, ibuprofen or coumadin for two days before or after your appointment. However, any prescribed medication must not be discontinued without consulting your doctor.
  • Do not consume caffeine or alcohol within 24 hours of your appointment.
  • Refrain from using sunbeds and avoid natural sunlight 2 weeks before and after your treatment.
  • Refrain from waxing at least 48 hours before the treatment.
  • Refrain from having electrolysis for at least 5 days before the treatment.
  • Eyebrow tinting should not be undertaken 1 week before the treatment.

Aftercare advice

Your aftercare can greatly impact the finished results to your microblading treatment, so please read this carefully and follow all advice in order to get the best from your microblading!

  • Please keep the area completely dry for 7 days whilst healing.  We recommend a gentle facial cleanser for the rest of the face during this time.
  • Keep hair away to prevent infection.
  • Do not use any products on the area unless instructed by your technician.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, tanning beds, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, fake tan and swimming for 2 weeks following your treatment.
  • Do not touch, pick, peel or scratch the area, to avoid infection or scarring.
  • Avoid makeup on the area until completely healed.
  • If you are a blood donor, you may not be eligible to give blood for 4 months after your treatment.
  • Avoid all hair removal and tinting treatments for at least 2 weeks after the treatment.

FAQs

  • Does it hurt?

There will be mild to no pain during the procedure, the brows may begin to feel slightly tender towards the end of your treatment but you will be kept completely comfortable throughout your procedure.  Numbing creams can be used to ensure complete comfort throughout!

  • How long does the procedure take?

Please set aside 2 hours for the procedure, this time includes a consultation, pre draw and the microblading procedure, however your treatment may be complete within 1.5 hours.

  • How long is the healing process? Will they look bad?

The full healing time for the treatment is 4 weeks, however they will visibly heal within 2 weeks.  Immediately after the treatment the area may be slightly red and the pigment will appear slightly darker than the healed colour.  The brows will begin to darken during healing a couple of days after your procedure before they begin to flake/scab.  They can look dry during this time however it won't be anything to stop you from continuing your day as normal.

They will begin to lighten and almost appear as though they have disappeared.  This is completely normal as the skin begins to repair itself, and will then begin to resurface once healed.  We will then finish any patchy areas in your touch up 4-6 weeks later.

  • Do I need the retouch 6 weeks later?

Yes you will be required to attend this appointment to complete the procedure, as certain skin types will retain the pigment better than others.  We can also make any small adjustments in this appointment, with colour and shape.  The touch up appointment is included in the full price so you won't need to pay any extra!
